Ramadan Mubarak, lights out

The blessed month of Ramadan has begun. The first fast will be tomorrow (except in NWFP). May everyone have a blessed Ramadan, and may Allah's blessing and mercy be upon everyone.

And let us not forget last year's earth quake victims (the quake came on 3rd Ramadan last year). Now would be a good time to contribute to the welfare of these people through your Zakat and other offerings. Remember, just because its not in the news doesn't mean that most of the quake victims are still homeless. It is up to each and every one of us as Pakistani's to help them.

Today, the entire country saw one of the worst power outages to date. The power in the entire country was gone for a good 6-7 hours, and even more than that in some areas. There were plenty of rumors as to the cause of the outage. Amongst the one's I heard were that a) the government has been overthrown b) we're being bombed c) terrorists blew up a dam/power grid etc etc. The actual reason turned out to be a fault in the country's electricity net. These rumors, as a friend pointed out, were probably started by the WAPDA/KESC people to distract people from the real source of the problem, i.e. that they were without electricity (and water) on a hot summer day :)

Very true about zakat.

Rumors were cool - although the point to ponder is were they really rumors (may i should leave that for Shabbir Ahsan to argue)
